Jurassic Park opening in Portugal?

Published on

The title of this article is probably a bit deceiving, at least for someone who grew up in the 1990s. The Jurassic Park opening in Lourinha is not one where you will find live dinosaurs roaming the countryside, and you certainly will not have to worry about a t-rex following you home after your vacation. Instead, this will be an area that promotes education, and loads of fun for people of all ages.

Opening in 2013, the dinosaur-themed park will be using a budget of about ten million euros, and once that funding is approved, it will pay for about ninety-five percent of the park’s expenses. This city in Portugal has actually moved a step closer to opening its park via a contract with a private German partner, linking to the soon to be famous ‘Dinopark’ in Munchenagen. These German partners plan to open a similar park along with financing and management once it is officially opened.

Lourinha has been a place of incredible discovery for many years. In fact, over 150-million-year-ond dinosaur fossils have been discovered beneath it’s very ground. Many of these could be on display, and the Jurassic Park will take up a 25 hectare sits in Pinal dos Camarnais. This park provides an excellent opportunity for school children, and there will even be activities geared specifically toward younger children.

Once the park opens, it is expected to draw about 200,000 visitors per year with a day ticket costing about 12 euros per ticket. The museum will be built over the course of eighteen months, and 250 life-sized dinosaur models will be utilized. This alone will cost about 2.5 million euros, along with the construction of footpaths for visitors to traverse. Various artifacts and displays will be purchased between the time the park opens and today, providing the most realistic and informative experience possible.

It should be noted that the park will be built around an old municipal waste dump, and a plan must be created before the project can truly be started. It is expected that the plan will be approved in March, allowing for construction in July.

It is a given that some will be disappointed in the fact that this Jurassic Park does not feature live dinosaurs, but it provides much more than a thrill. It gives everyone a highly educational experience that will appeal to people of all ages. At some point, everyone will realize just how lacking prehistoric education actually is. The world is a very complex place, and this new park will open up the world in a way never before anticipated. People from around the world are urged to visit the park and see what the world before time was like. It is most definitely a tradition that can be passed from generation to generation!
