TAP introduces new summer flight destinations

TAP has announced new summer destinations including Miami, Florida in the USA, Manchester, UK and Bamako, Mali; flights are slated to begin operation to these destinations in June.

According to a TAP spokesperson, TAP has been interested in expanding its flights to US airports for some time, since Portugal has yet to catch up to many of its European neighbors in terms of direct flights to the United States. Another TAP spokesperson expressed the airline's optimism about the new destination, noting that Miami is a very popular destination for tourists as well as business travelers. He further pointed out that the Miami area is home to many retirees who travel to Europe frequently. TAP flights to Miami will begin on 6 June, with five flights per week planned for the airline at present.

TAP made the decision to operate flights to Mali based on the large volume of air traffic between destinations in Africa and Europe, with the airline seeing that the demand is greater than the existing supply. TAP intends to operate flights to Mali from other connecting airports in Europe, especially France. Flights from Lisbon to Bamako will begin on 5 June, with three flights planned per week.

Manchester has been a destination for TAP flights in the past and as of 1 June, this route will be restored, with smaller aircraft flying the route. TAP plans five flights per week to Manchester.

Aside from Bamako, Miami and Manchester, TAP will also begin flying to Dubrovnik, São Vincente, Bordeaux, Dusseldorf, Vienna, Porto Alegre and Athens this summer.
