International Schools

There are several international and English schools in Portugal and the Algarve offering high standard education to foreign as well as Portuguese children and young people. The programmes vary from the British GCSE and GCE examination system to the International Baccalaureate (I.B) programme.
 

ALGARVE

  • Vilamoura International School

Vilamoura International School is located in the expanding Vilamoura complex just west of Faro. It is a co-educational private day school with both a national and international section. The international department follows the British curriculum up to IGCSE level and in the national department children follow the national curriculum and Portuguese is taught as a first language.   • VVIS International School

Vale Verde International School in Lagos in the Western Algarve has both a primary and secondary department. The primary section of VVIS offers a bilingual programme for students between 5 and 11. Students at Key Stage 3 level are offered a wide and balanced curriculum based on the British curriculum for this stage which will lead to the internationally recognised qualification of IGCSE (International Certificate of Secondary education) and the ICE (international Certificate of Education). Students in Years 12 and 13 will follow the Cambridge AS and A2 level programmes which will able them entrance to university. www.vvis.org

  • Eastern Algarve International School of Tavira

EAST is a new international school opened in September 2006. The school is currently open for children between 4 and 11, but it is aiming to expand over the coming years so that it will eventually cater for children up to the age of 18.   • The International School of the Algarve

The International school of the Algarve is situated in Lagoa on the main East-west road in the central Algarve about 30 minutes from Faro. In the primary (age 4 to 10) and the secondary (age 11 to 18) school the children follow an adapted version of the English National Curriculum.   • Barlavento International Primary English School

The Barlavento English School is located in the Western Algarve close to Lagos and within easy reach of Portimão. It is a private school that offers primary education to children between the ages of 4 to 11. CASCAIS

  • The Cascais International School

The International Christian School of Cascais is located in the town of Cascais around 30 kilometres from Lisbon. The school offers education based on Christian principles and morals and according to the American curriculum, and runs from Kindergarten 4 up to grade 12. www.icsc.pt

  • International Preparatory School

The International Preparatory School (IPS) is located halfway between Cascais and Lisbon in the town of Carcavelos. It is a co-educational school that provide students in the primary years (age 2 to 13) with an education based on the British National Curriculum. www.ipsschool.org

  • St. Julian’s School

St. Julian’s School in Carcavelos is a co-educational school that caters for children between the ages of 3 to 18. The school has both an English and Portuguese department. The Portuguese section follows the National Curriculum and the English section includes both a primary and a secondary school and prepares students for the GCSE or IGCSE exams. www.stjulians.com
 

  • Cabo da Roca International English School (CIES)

Cabo da Roca International English School (CIES) is based in Cascais and provides students with excellent academic programs and a nurturing environment with close student-teacher relationships. LISBON

  • Carlucci American International School of Lisbon

The Carlucci American International School (CAISL) is situated in the capital and offer children from the age of 2 to the age of 18 an education based on the American Curriculum that prepares them to enter institutions of higher learning in Portugal, the UK and the United States.   • St. Dominic’s International School

St. Dominic’s International School was founded in 1964 by the Irish Dominican Sisters and is situated 25 kilometres from Lisbon. The school offers an international education to all children between 3 and 18 and the curriculum is based on the International Baccalaureate programme www.dominics-int.org

  • Lycée Francais

The only French School (Primary and Secondary) is the Lycée in Lisbon. It is located at the very entrance to Lisbon from the Cascais-Lisbon A5 motorway. For someone living in Estoril or Cascais it would be a 25 minute drive to the school. There is also dedicated school transport services from this area to and from the school. www.lfcl-lisbonne.eu
 

  • Red Bridge School

Redbridge school is a private innovative primary school founded in September 2017 and located in Lisbon downtown, in the neighbourhood of Campo de Ourique. Redbridge school has 3 teaching languages: French, Portuguese and English. Programmes of the French national curriculum and of the Portuguese national curriculum are applied. Sintra

  • Prime School - Trilingual International School Sintra

Prime School, Trilingual in English, Portuguese & Spanish is located in Sintra and accepts students ages 3-19 years old. Prime School, a Tri-lingual Educational Project carried out in collaboration with Cambridge under the tutelage of the Portuguese Ministry of Education is the only school in greater Lisboa certified by the University of Cambridge for teaching AS (Advanced AS level) and A (Advanced) Level courses leading to the AICE Diploma award.

  • The Oporto British School

Oporto British School is supposedly the oldest British school in mainland Europe. It provides international education for children between 4 and 18 years of age based on an adapted version of the British National Curriculum. www.obs.edu.pt

  • Colégio Luso-Internacional do Centro

Colegio Luso-International do Porto (CLIP) is a co-educational English school for students between the ages of 5 up to 18. The school is divided into three sections each with its own Head; Lower school, Middle school and Upper school. The school also offers different educational programmes for adults. www.clip.pt
