Suggested Lisbon Itineraries

So because you are probably on a limited time table in Lisbon, let’s talk about a few of the things that you can do.

So much to see and do in Lisbon!

Lisbon is the largest city in the country of Portugal, and it is one that you will probably want to visit. In fact many people will visit this country only to see Lisbon. The problem with it being so large is that many people do not manage to see the things worth seeing in the time they have. Ideally you would probably want to spend about a month there, but hey, not everyone can do that. So because you are probably on a limited time table, let’s talk about a few of the things that you can do.

One of the hotspots in Lisbon is the Cathedral in the Alfama district. This is a piece of history from the 12th century, but that’s not the only piece of history that you will find situated in Lisbon. In addition to this you could visit St. George’s Castle, and even check out the National Coach Museum. All of this can be done in a single day, but if you have more time, then there are definitely more things for you to do.

There are many more museums, and if you look you can find influences from the days of old. Remember that this was a battlefield in the days of the Crusade, and the city has changed hands several times. It was even occupied by the Roman Empire for a time! Sintra hosts a huge castle that can take several days to explore, so you might want to give that a try as well. If you are into medieval architecture, then this area certainly will not disappoint you.

Getting around Lisbon

The National Coach Museum is another great place to visit, and if you want to go somewhere great, then check out the National Museum of Ancient Art. Now at some point you will need something to eat, and luckily the city has plenty of restaurants. The only problem you will run into is that ¾ of the city is nothing but a tourist trap. Any eating establishments that you initially want to visit will probably be incredibly expensive. You really cannot blame them; the tourism funds the city. But you, being the wise sort of person probably want to find a way to save money. Luckily it’s quite possible.

The thing you need to remember is that there are people that are native to, or at least living in the city. They certainly cannot afford the high prices that the tourists are being charged, so where do they eat? It might be awkward to just walk up to someone and say: “Where do you eat?”, so what you should do is look for individuals that live in the city. Usually they aren’t hard to find, and when you do, watch them to see where they go. Now when we say this we do not mean that yous hold follow two feet from them and comment on everything they do. Doing this might just land you in a jail cell for a night. If the local jail was not on your itinerary, then you might find that your entire schedule is displaced. If you can find the places that these people eat at, you might find the lower prices, and you might even find better food. You never know!

There are quite a few different things to see while you are touring the great city of Lisbon. It’s almost impossible to describe every activity, and you will no doubt come across many other things to do while you are exploring the city. The point is that you should have as much fun as possible while you are in the city, and you should see as many sights as you can. After all, you may never see this place again! Find the places that you want to go and make a list, and soon enough you will be on the adventure of a lifetime.
