Porches is a Portuguese village, part of the Lagoa county and Faro district, with Alcantarilha and Armacao de Pera neighbours in the East and Lagoa town and Carvoeiro in the West.
The local patrimony includes the Hermitage and Beach of Our Lady of the Rock (Ermida e a Praia da Senhora da Rocha), which is located on the edge of a cliff, hence the name; as well as the famous Sacred Well (Poço Santo). The origins of Poco Santo are unknown, but it has always been considered a sacred place where people would say their prayers and thank Mary or just visit it. Nearby a monument and chapel in name of the Virgin Mary.
Another of its main attractions is the Porches Pottery, a dream of two artists (one Irish and one Portuguese) of continuing with century long traditions in ceramics with mediterranian motifs. Porches is known for its wine, pottery and artists. If you are in the area, don’t miss the O Leao do Porches restaurant (The lion of Porches).
