The Carnival of Luxury is coming to Portugal! Indeed, the Gentle Land may soon also be known as the Land of Luxury with the entry of the first international luxury lifestyle event at the Arave Pavilion in the Municipality of Lagoa at the Algarve Region. The event is considered as a major vote of confidence for the Portuguese and their country – and for good reasons, too!

The Carnival of Luxury – Ultimate Lifestyle Fair is organized by the Vida de Luxe, an Al Ark Limited subsidiary. Al Ark is a Hong Kong-based concierge, luxury and lifestyle management corporation established by the Aydelman family.

This is a 6-day event featuring the most luxurious products and services in the world. These include world-renowned luxury goods, haute couture fashion shows, lavish entertainment and a black-tie gala dinner, all of which will be provided to guests under a single roof. The rich and famous will be here to enjoy the carnival-themed extravaganza aimed at telling the world that, indeed, Portugal has arrived in the elite circle.

The Carnival of Luxury will run from 25 to 30 April 2013 at the Arade Pavilion. The venue is well suited to the luxury event considering its multi-functional complex design, its thousand-people capacity, and its large foyer areas, among other features. In fact, the complex is used for many large-scale indoor events in the Algarve and Barlavento Regions.

On the first day, which falls on the national holiday known as 25 de Abril, only the Super-VIPs including the elite guests, dignitaries and celebrities are invited to participate in the private opening. The remaining four days will be open to the general public with VIP treatment accorded to all the guests.

Monday, the 29th of April, is celebrated as Business Monday. This is packaged as the day when the exhibitors can do business with their rich and famous clientele, make a statement that, indeed, Portugal is open for business, and spread the word.

A percentage of the deals entered into during Business Monday will be donated to charity. Five percent of the overall profit will also be divided between one international and one national charity. Who’s to say that luxury cannot also be charitable?

In all the days of the Carnival of Luxury, daily entertainment will be provided for the guests and exhibitors. These include ballet and burlesque shows coupled with gala dinners, among others.

Big spenders from all over the world especially Europe are most welcome to the event. High-end products and services are showcased amidst the beauty of the Algarve Region, not to mention its excellent peace and order situation coupled with the discreet attitude of its people. The Algarve is, bar none, the best place in Portugal for such a rarified gathering of the world’s elite.

The event was inspired by the mobile exhibition first introduced in Amsterdam more than 10 years ago. The Algarve version, however, will be more than just a luxurious shopping experience.

According to Luis da Silva and Adam Twidale, an executive of Vida de Luxe, the luxury lifestyle event will showcase everything good about Portugal. The finest Portuguese luxury products and services will be placed alongside internationally renowned brands from countries as diverse as the USA, France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Russia, and Israel.

The event is also a statement unto its own, with the statement being that Portugal has the resources to compete with the best of them in a luxury lifestyle event like no other. Even with the global financial crisis, the luxury business is as healthy as ever and, in many instances, it is even booming. This is not surprising considering that the luxury market is a cut above the mass market in more ways than one.

The carnival theme may be far from the popular conceptions about Portugal and its people and places. Carnival is, after all, closely associated with Brazil but the Brazilian carnival has its roots in a Catholic Portuguese tradition, the Entrudo.

The luxury lifestyle event may also look incongruous on Portuguese soil but upon closer inspection, it is definitely not. Portugal is one of the world’s leaders in several luxury industries particularly in high-end shoes, jewellery, and fashion as well as in real estate, food and beverages, and financial services. Portugal may not be as visible on the international market but it is making its mark – and brand – known with events like the Carnival of Luxury.

The event organizers are encouraging Portuguese companies to participate in the Carnival of Luxury. Local companies should see it as an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their products and services on the international arena and, hopefully, take their business to the next level.

So, get yourself ready for the event! This in Portugal will likely be one of its best.
